1. It’s the African American Independence Day! This holiday commemorates the abolition of slavery in the south on June 19, 1965.

2. The holiday was announced to enslaved African men and women in Texas two and a half years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

3. There is a Juneteenth flag is re, white and blue with a star on it. The “bursting star” represents A NEW FREEDOM, A NEW PEOPLE, A NEW STAR.

4. There were approximately 4 million African people in slavery during this time.
